Human Rights Dialogue – Ukraine as a catalyst for human rights collaboration
This half-day workshop brings together researchers and human rights experts from Lund University’s Human Rights Profile Area, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), the Swedish Institute for Human Rights as well as RWI colleagues from Ukraine. Open to people who are interested in becoming a member of the Human Rights Profile Area.
We begin with an overview of RWI’s current projects in Ukraine, implemented with support from Sida, Swedish MFA, and Swedish Institute, which engage international expertise in collaboration with local partners, including academics across multiple universities. The overview will highlight diverse themes that align closely with the Profile Area’s research themes, from access to justice to disability rights, conflicts and disasters and good governance, and responsible business. The presentation will then focus on the upcoming study that illustrates what it means to promote and protect human rights at the local level in a country at war and in the context of EU accession process.
Building on this shared vantage point, the event moves into an interactive dialogue to identify areas of mutual interest and map concrete opportunities for collaboration. Together, participants will brainstorm joint initiatives—such as mobility activities, practice‑oriented studies, and multi‑disciplinary research proposals—relevant to Ukraine and transferable to other contexts.
Human Rights Dialogue is a continuation of the workshop format introduced in 2025 in collaboration with the Swedish Institute for Human Rights. By connecting researchers and practitioners across organizations, the Human Rights Dialogue seeks to foster a vibrant human rights community in Lund. This year, it is co‑organized by Lund University’s Human RightsProfile Area and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
